Job Hunting in Hard Times

About the Author

James A. Davis

While with North Country Options in northern California, James Davis presented workshops on job-hunting skills. His program on self-employment trained budding entrepreneurs to focus their products using market segment analysis and customer sampling techniques.

At the Polytechnic Institute of New York, Mr. Davis conducted research on job search techniques, identifying the ideal intervention points for training programs.

As an executive in software development for the past fifteen years, Mr. Davis built point-of-sale products for the casino and resorts industries, added software for color analysis equipment, and created the first wave of software for e-learning in higher education. During that period, he handled every aspect of the hiring process, from shifting through two foot stacks of resumes, to initial interviews, to salary negotiations.

Mr. Davis has authored books on sport psychology, habit control, and handling technical overload. He likes to address emerging technology issues as illustrated by articles on MLM on the Web, art marketing, and boardroom dynamics. His upcoming Manager Guide series will touch on everyday technology issues, such as, code migration, throughput testing, and up-time strategies.
